Post Graduate and Research Department of English
The Department of English was established with the B.A English Degree Course in the year 2009. The M.A. English degree course was launched in 2010, upgrading to the postgraduate level. The English department is also a recognized research center with affiliation to Periyar University since 2017. Our faculty members are experts in different fields of teaching and research. Our undergraduate students won gold medals and postgraduate students won a number of ranks in university examinations conducted by Periyar University Salem-11, Tamil Nadu, India.
Till now our department achieved 2 Gold medals with 59 University Ranks. The faculties put forth hard endeavors to develop the skills of the students. The department has registered good academic records both in university examinations and placement. Various alumni of our curriculum have distinguished careers in India and abroad as Researchers, Executives, Professors, Lecturers, Teachers, and Managers etc.
The department aims at the overall development of the students by involving them in various academic and non-academic programs like seminars, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, cultural events, guest lecturers, etc.
OBJECTIVE
To educate the students both in the artistry and utility of the English language through the study of literature and other contemporary forms of culture.
To make students aware of the different communicative skills, and to develop among them an ability to effectively communicate in English, both in written and spoken modes.
To make the students excellent in writing in a variety of forms.
To provide students with the critical faculties necessary in an academic environment on the job and in an increasingly complex, interdependent world.
Above all, to help students explore what is to be human.
To understand people, cultures, societies, and events of the entire globe.
The study of literature cultivates wisdom and a worldview.
It makes students appreciate their own cultural heritage and others also.
It helps students to develop emotional intelligence and creativity.

The present syllabus aims to impart in-depth knowledge of the subject and highlight the role of English in the field of Arts.
The lucid explanation of the topics will help students understand the fundamental concepts. An attempt has been made to logically correlate the topic with its applications.
ELIGIBILITY FOR UG-ENGLISH ADMISSION
A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Board or some other Board accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto with all subjects shall be eligible for admission into a B.A., Course in English. The course shall consist of three academic years divided into six semesters.
ELIGIBILITY FOR PG-ENGLISH ADMISSION
A candidate must have qualified their Bachelor’s degree in any stream. The aspirants must have secured 50% marks in Bachelors with any recognized University. The Course of the Degree Master of Arts shall consist of two academic years divided into four semesters.
