In 2016, the Economics department was first established. The department provides undergraduate education. It offers a route to a wide range of employment possibilities, including positions in private businesses and in government policy. The department has at present 2 energetic and dedicated faculty members. The department has produced University Ranks every year in UG. Overall Gold Medal up to 3 and overall ranks up to 6.
Economic courses offer a helpful applied complement to the tools that students gain in statistical and mathematical courses because of their heavily quantitative focus. Knowledge transfer about national socioeconomic issues while considering both Economics theory and training for equitable development. The department is committed to providing undergraduate students who are interested in Economics a challenging and excellent college experience. Experiential learning, peer-to-peer learning, smart classrooms, and other cost-effective teaching pedagogies are used.
Conferences and Industrial Visits.
- The Department assists students in acquiring managerial, Technical, and leadership skills. A team of highly qualified, experienced, and committed faculty members Works to ensure that students strive relentlessly to excellence & and relentlessly to excel in their efforts. Then it has been maintaining its 100 % results in every batch.
OBJECTIVE
- The course aims at explaining the business environment in which the public and private sectors operate.
- It helps students to develop decision-making ability in real-time business situations

- The students are required to choose a specialization of their interest in the last year of the program, which further facilitates them to develop their management skills in a particular sector.
Eligibility
- A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Board or an examination of some other board accepted by the syndicate as equivalent thereto with BA Economics following subjects namely Commerce, Accountancy, History, Maths, Vocational Groups (Any degree) shall be eligible for admission into BA Economics Course.
Department Activities
- The BA Economics degree is designed to give a broad knowledge of the functional aspects of a higher study, and interconnection while also allowing for the specialization in a particular, managerial and communication and also business decision capability.
- There were a total of 22 students in our department and well-talented and experienced faculty. In our department, Faculty are not only for teaching book materials but they are the guidelines, well-wishers, and great friendly approach towards students.
- So far the department has proved excellent academic progress at Periyar University. Since the commencing of the BA Economics department it secured the overall pass percentage results was 100% every year. In 2016, G.Abitha Gold medal in 2020, K.Boomika 2020 Gold medalist and S. Mugila. Gold medalist 2022.
