Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science was established in 2010 with the introduction of the B.Sc. Computer Science programme. The department expanded to the postgraduate level with the launch of the M.Sc. Computer Science programme in 2011. It became a recognized research centre of Periyar University in 2012 with affiliation for the M.Phil. Programme, followed by the establishment of the Ph.D. Research Programme in 2015.

The department is strengthened by fully qualified and experienced faculty members, with ten experts contributing to various fields of teaching and research. Students of the department have consistently excelled, securing gold medals and several university ranks in examinations conducted by Periyar University, Salem, Tamil Nadu.

The department houses two well-equipped laboratories with high-end computer systems, totaling 120 machines, all supported with full air-conditioning. To date, the department has produced seven Ph.D. research scholars, 6 gold medals, and 52 university ranks across undergraduate, postgraduate, and M.Phil. programmes.

The department has 11 teaching and 2 non-teaching staff members. Among the teaching faculty, 2 members guide M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars, while 5 faculty members are currently pursuing their Ph.D. The staff have contributed numerous research papers in both national and international journals.

To promote holistic student development, the department organizes guest lectures, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, cultural programmer, and various academic activities. The department maintains an excellent record in university examinations and placement drives. Many of its alumni today serve in prominent roles as Software Engineers, System Analysts, Researchers, Executives, Professors, Lecturers, and Teachers in India and abroad.

The Department of Computer Science continues to play a vital role in advancing technology, innovation, and computational problem-solving skills.

Eligibility B.Sc. Computer Science

A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination with Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics (Academic or Vocational stream) as one of the subjects under the Board of Higher Secondary Examination, Tamil Nadu, as per the norms set by the Government of Tamil Nadu, or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the syndicate, subject to such other prescribed conditions, is eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree. Eligible candidates are permitted to pursue the programme and appear for the B.Sc. Computer Science degree examination of this university after completing three academic years of study.

M.Sc. Computer Science

OBJECTIVE

The student will learn the laboratory skills required for software development, coding, software design interpretation, and research implementation.
The student will acquire a strong foundation in computer science with sufficient breadth and depth to understand and critically interpret primary software and hardware literature.
The student will develop the ability to communicate software-related information and research outcomes effectively in both written and oral formats.
The student will learn professionalism, including teamwork skills and the application of basic moral principles.
To encourage faculty members to participate in seminars.
To promote research publications by the staff in reputed journals.

Lab facilities in Computer Science Department

We provide ample computing facility to the students. Students have an unlimited Internet access from 9.30 AM to 4 PM. All computers in the lab have LAN facility. CS Department has following Software facilitiesin our labs as per the curriculum. Our two labs have good air conditions facilities.
